NUART @ URBAN CREATIVITY 2020
Nuart Lockdown Edition
Urban Creativity, Lisbon
July 10th 2020, 17:00
Join Nuart Journal Editor Susan Hansen and Founder Martyn Reed for a discussion on Nuart’s ongoing Lockdown Edition. Originally devised as an alternative to the annual Nuart Festival in Aberdeen, it has since expanded as both practice and critique of the culture's response to recent events.
We explore the latest issue of Nuart Journal on Freedom and present short films by legendary Parisian subvertiser OX and a pertinent project from Paris based Lisbon artist Filipe Vilas-Boas, amongst others.
Filipe Vila-Boas is media artist exploring our use of technology and its political, social and environmental implications.
He is a self-taught media artist currently living and working in Paris. Without being a naive tech utopist or a reluctant technophobe, he explores our use of technology and its ethical and aesthetical implications. His installations, performances and conceptual artworks question the global digitalization of our societies, mostly by merging our physical (IRL) and digital (URL) worlds.
As we began to ask ourselves what role street art may play during Quarantine, and why mural culture in particular had rushed to fill the void with studio based works, so we began to see other artists, on the margins of what we commonly call "street art", start to move into focus by becoming increasingly relevant to these new conditions.
