NUART PRESENTS WORK, CREATE, PLAY AT NORDIC EDGE
Nuart's inaugural “Artist-in-Residence” project for the Nordic Edge Expo - the Nordic's leading Smart City conference.
Artists Jordan Seiler (US) & Mathieu Tremblin (FR) were invited by Nuart to create a series of artistic interventions, both physical and digital, in and around the conference area. Titled Digital Fortune Cookies, the project combined activism and augmented reality technology to explore the ways in which our cities can be rewired and transformed through unusual, dynamic and occasional unsanctioned public art practice.
Physical works were produced with aspiring activists as part of a workshop hosted by Kunsthall Stavanger, with digital works delivered on screens and mobile phones in collaboration with tech provider Bolder.
As part of the Nordic Edge parallel program, Jordan and Mathieu also joined renowned curator Angelique Spaninks from Eindhoven’s MU and Hilary O’Shaughnessy from Bristol’s Playable City for a panel debate, hosted by Nuart. The panelists addressed how a quietly progressing revolution in public art practice is shaping future cities whilst creating happier, healthier, more civic minded citizens given agency through technology.
From the artists:
Digital Fortune Cookies is a corpus of updated fortune cookies providing digital predictions or wisdoms regarding the relationship we develop with technology in our everyday life.
In the context of the Nordic Edge Expo and its theme of "smart happiness" we decided to use stolen advertising material as a starting point to build our stand and spread a message in contrast to technological propaganda and its economy, which is based on ownership and marketing. Here, we speak about "smart laziness" and empowerment through a critique of technology-based ideology.
