NUART SENIORS PROGRAM
Inspired by Lara Seixo Rodrigues' Graffiti Grandma project in Portugal Lata 65, Nuart is launching a new series of workshops aimed at engaging senior citizens in Street Art practice.
The program will see Nuart deliver hands-on workshops at nursing homes across Stavanger, with participants ranging from 80-100 years old…proving that it’s never too late to hit the streets!
The workshops provide an introduction to the history and origins of Street Art as well as its various forms - from small scale stencils and wheatpastes to large scale murals. Participants then make their own Street Art inspired artworks under the guidance of Nuart's trained teachers and guides.
The program - the first of its kind in Norway - was devised in partnership with Stavanger Kommune as part of ‘Den kulturelle spaserstokken’, a Government funded initiative to provide varied arts and culture experiences for Norway’s elderly generation.
James Finucane, Nuart Festival Manager said: ‘We're delighted to have the opportunity to deliver these workshops to nursing homes throughout the region. Not only are they an interesting alternative to the kind of activities usually offered to this age group, they also demonstrate the potential that Street Art holds as a catalyst for involving and integrating older groups within the wider community.”
Nuart’s Education Program is the largest Street Art education program in the world, with more than 10,000 people taking part in Nuart-led workshops in the past five years.
